The «Arca de Mijavelhas» or «Poço de Mijavelhas» is a water reservoir built in the sixteenth century situated at that time in «Campo de Mijavelhas» which is currently known as «Campo 24 de Agosto». This water reservoir provided water to the city of Porto by capturing water sources and conducting them to fountains all over the city. Over time, this important reservoir was forgotten due to the improvements and innovations in the water supply to the homes of people from Porto. However, recent excavations works for Metro do Porto services revealed this old reservoir which consists of a well with more than six meters deep. The ruins are exposed permanently in the station «24 de Agosto».
