Monte do Tadeu Viewpoint
The neighbourhood of Monte do Tadeu and Monte dos Congregados is considered, geographically speaking, the highest place in the city of Porto. The history of this area dates back to the period when the Priests and Monks of the Congregation of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri established their residence, in the second half of the 17th century, in the city of Porto. For recreational purposes, they decided to establish a property on the hill where Monte do Tadeu and Monte dos Congregados residential area is actually located. In 1834, with the extinction of the religious orders, their property is passed to the Municipality of Porto. A few decades later water tanks were built here and were managed by a French company named Compagnie Géneral des Eaux Pour l’Etrange. Nowadays, the top of Rua do Monte dos Congregados is a must visit area in the parish of Bonfim due to the views that can be contemplated of Porto and its surroundings (Source: text based on Mário de Sousa, 2008 - Expresso).
