Municipal Library of Porto
The Municipal Library of Porto is located in the former Convent of Saint Anthony of the City, a building dating from the eighteenth century. This convent was extinct after the «Cerco do Porto» (Siege of Porto) along with other religious institutions. A few years later, this building was occupied by the Allen Museum (or Porto Museum), the predecessor of Soares dos Reis National Museum and also by the The Fine Arts School of Porto, which was installed in the ground floor of this building. In 1833, the Municipal Library of Porto was founded by decree of D. Pedro IV, and initially it was located in Cordoaria. The Library was installed in this building only in 1842, after some adjustments. It is much appreciated for its special funds, from Middle Ages to the present day (Source: Jorge Ricardo Pinto (2011), Bonfim - Território de Memórias e Destinos).
