Saint Crispim Chapel
The former headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Office of Shoemakers and Leather Workers, founded in the thirteenth century, was situated in the former Largo de S. Crispim, at the beginning of rua de S. Ana and Biquinha, near the current Largo de S. Domingos. There the Palmeiros Hospital was constructed, an initiative of Martim Barreiros and his wife Joana Martins, Benefactors of the Brotherhood. This couple donated their assets to the Brotherhood, as stated in a parchment that dates from 1345 and that is kept in the archives of this Brotherhood. After the opening of rua Mouzinho da Silveira, in 1875, the Palmeiros Hospital was demolished and the Municipality of Porto had to pay the Brotherhood. The Municipality of Porto also donated a property in Lugar da Póvoa de Cima (Praça da Rainha Dona Amélia) to rebuild the church and the current headquarters of Brotherhood of Saint Crispim and Saint Crispiniano. This church, in honor of two brothers (Saint Crispim and Saint Crispiniano) was blessed in 1878. Today this Brotherhood has a large collection of documents, such as Tombo books, property records, donations, and many other documents.
